Auditor

Q: What is a previous session? What is a current session?

A: Auditor saves results of scanning - found URLs - when you close it. When you select a site that has been already scanned, Auditor tries to load the saved results of the previous scanning, i.e. previous session. Until you save the found URLs, a session is considered current.

Q: When I tried to save the current session, I got the error. What shall I do?

A: There are two possible outcomes. First, the current session has been saved, but backup files are corrupted. In this case the program will close. Second, the program does not close saying "Cannot save . files" or "Cannot overwrite . files". Here you have two options: 1) try to save files again until success; 2) exit without saving. In this case, when you open this project next time, you should be careful to select the right option. Depending on what was corrupted - current session files or backup files - you should choose the undamaged files.

Q: When I opened my project, I got an error saying Auditor can't read session files. What's wrong?

A: This might have happened because another application accessed session files (most likely, if you were using some alternative viewer at that moment). Close the viewer (or other program), then close Auditor and open Auditor again. If the problem persists, rescan the site. This problem may also arise if the previous session was incorrectly saved and its files were corrupted. In such a case, rescan the site.

Q: What are orphaned files? Why should I check for them?

A: Orphaned files are files stored in your web folders but not linked to by any other page on your site. Usually they are unused, and you should think of getting rid of them.

Q: Can I scan the local copy of my site?

A: Yes. Open 'Local scanning' in options and select the index file of your site local copy. Check 'Local scanning' at the bottom of the window.

Q: How can I check for orphaned files?

A: You have two options: local search and search via FTP. If you check for orphaned files locally, select 'Local search' in Options> Orphaned files. Then you should specify an initial directory and index file of your local copy.

If you want to search for orphaned files immediately on your web server, you should select 'Search via FTP' in Options> Orphaned files and set up your FTP connection.

Q: Can I scan orphaned files locally?

A: Yes. Select 'Local search' in Options> Orphaned files. Then you should specify an initial directory and index file of your local copy.
