Ranking Checker
Q: I heard some search engines ban IP addresses of those who use automated
ranking checking programs. Can I get into trouble if I use your software?
A: Most rank checking programs send
multiple queries simultaneously and in this way overuse search engine's
server resources. Web CEO's Ranking Checker sends requests one by one
to the search engines that explicitly forbid these practices, and acts
like a human user. There are other precautions which help to successfully
imitate human search.
Q: How can I add a new search engine in the search engine list?
A: You cannot add a search engine by yourself, but you can contact
us and request a new search engine, and we will consider your suggestion.
If you want a new search engine in the Ranking checker, open your ranking
profile and press the "Request new search engine" button.
Enter a search engine name and your comments in the "Request a
feature" box and press OK. If you want a new search engine in a
different Web CEO module, press 'Request a feature' in the Help submenu
of the main menu and suggest it there.
Q: I compared your software to other ranking
checkers and found that your software works slower. Why?
A: Web CEO's Ranking Checker sends
consecutive queries to the search engines that forbid sending automated
queries; it won't flood them with simultaneous requests. That is why
it works slower, however it is safer for the user to check rankings
in this way.
Q: Can I make the software work speedier?
A: You can do the following things:
First, try another proxy server. Some proxy servers are slower than
others. Second, reduce the number of results to scan. Third, checkmark
'Search until the first entry found' box. Fourth, unselect the search
engines that you do not target. Fifth, you can open more threads for
your queries in Settings> Common> General> Maximum simultaneous
Internet connections.
Q: Can I check rankings of a certain page
of my site?
A: If a page is optimized for keywords
that you entered, it has every chance to be found. Normally, the software
strips off pages (e.g. /page.html) and searches for any page residing
on your domain.
Q: The ranking checker shows wrong results
for my site. Why?
A: Some search engines should have
changed their formats (coded HTML page layouts). The search engine results
pages are checked daily and if any changes are found, your Web CEO program
gets automatically updated very soon.
Q: The software does not find my site's
result while I can find it when I check manually.
A: Some search engines should have
changed their formats (coded HTML page layouts). The search engine results
pages are checked daily and if any changes found, your Web CEO program
gets automatically updated very soon.
Q: Why am I getting the "not ranked" results though I have optimized
my site pages and submitted them to search engines?
A: It is very unlikely that your site becomes available in top
search results soon after you have submitted the site pages. There can
be multiple reasons why it's not been ranked yet, some of them are below:
1) The pages aren't optimized well enough for the keyword you are
checking. Try to re-optimize pages or choose less competitive keywords.
2) There are no incoming links to your site. Some search engines will
index your site only after they have followed a link to your site from
another site that has been already indexed by this search engine;
3) You have chosen too few search results pages to scan in your
ranking profile settings ('Scan rules' tab in the ranking profile).
For example, if you set 50 top results (or 5 results pages) to be scanned,
you won't see your site in the ranking results if its position is 78.
Try to choose more pages or search results to scan on the 'Scan rules'
tab in the ranking profile.
Q: My site rankings reported by Web CEO Ranking checker and viewed
in a browser do not match. Why?
A: Search engines may show different results depending on the
languages selected in Language Preferences of a browser.
English is specified as a default language in Web CEO Ranking checkers
settings for browser emulation, and your browser is very likely to have
a different language selected in Language Preferences. This
caused a mismatch in ranking results.
To obtain the same results in Web CEO and in the browser, check what
language is selected in your browser settings (Tools> Internet Options>
General> Languages), then go to File> Settings> Ranking>
Connection in Web CEO and select the same language there instead of
English.
Q: Why your software has only a couple hundred search engines in its knowledge base, while other programs have thousands?
A: There are only several dozens search engines with their own index base, and only few search engines using own search algorithm (such as the Google and Inktomi machines). Therefore, it simply doesn’t make sense to submit to thousands, while these thousands mirror the major ones, using their index database. According to the comScore Media Metrix Search Engine Ratings, major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL) cover around 98% of total internet search traffic.
