Search Engine Submission
Q: The software does not submit to Yahoo!, DMOZ, and Overture. Why?
A: The software submits automatically only to the search engines
and directories, which accept automatic submissions. DMOZ and Yahoo!
are Web Directories that ask you to select an appropriate category for
your site and then submit your site from that category. Besides, there
is no need for on-going submissions, and in most cases you should pay
for your site's registration in Yahoo! Overture is a pay-per-click search
engine, you should manage your PPC campaign on Overture, which is why
no automatic submission to Overture seems to be feasible.
Web CEO provides regular updated tips and recommendations regarding
the submissions to Yahoo! and DMOZ in its manual submission section.
Besides, Web CEO also helps by giving you submission tips and fresh
info and sending you to Overture's registration page, where you can
begin registering.
Q: Some search engines discourage practices of multiple submissions.
Can I get into trouble if I use your submission tool?
A: To avoid spamming search engines, Web CEO Submission tool
does not allow you to submit all pages at once if it abuses submission
policy of a search engine. The default anti-spam settings can be overridden
only if you change them by hand.
If submission of your site to a search engine risks abusing submission
policy of that search engine, the program will submit the number
of pages which could be safely submitted, and place the rest on a waiting
list.
Q: Some search engines and directories send out unsolicited e-mails.
Can I expect these if I use your submission tool?
A: We strongly recommend that you don't use your regular e-mail
address for automatic submissions.
Q: Why your software has only a couple hundred search engines in its knowledge base, while other programs have thousands?
A: There are only several dozens search engines with their own index base, and only few search engines using own search algorithm (such as the Google and Inktomi machines). Therefore, it simply doesn’t make sense to submit to thousands, while these thousands mirror the major ones, using their index database. According to the comScore Media Metrix Search Engine Ratings, major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL) cover around 98% of total internet search traffic.
