Technical problems
Q: I use Windows XP and my user account belongs to the Administrators
group. If I log on under my user account, Web CEO works fine. However,
if I log on as a different user on the same computer I receive the
error message "Network error: Server busy.", though the other user
account is in Administrators group too.
A: You should install and use Web CEO under the same Windows
user account that is given Administrator privileges.
Q: I'm a network administrator. How can I install Web CEO for a user
with limited access?
A: Only administrators can properly install Web CEO because
it is required that the user can write to program and system folders,
and registry. On the other hand, it is important that the program is
installed and accessed under the same user account. We offer such a
compromise. Temporarily move this user account to Administrators group.
For the Web CEO installation, select a folder where the user has normally
access (do not select the default prompted C:/Program Files). After
the installation is complete, you can remove this user from the Administrators
group; this won't affect Web CEO performance.
Q: I have checked my connection settings, they are all correct and
other programs using Internet work fine, but I cannot connect to your
server. Why?
A: Possibly the system date on your computer is incorrect.
To provide our users with connection security, we use SSL certificate
to connect to our Datacenter. This certificate has a limited validity
period, so if the date mismatch is found during the check, the verification
fails, and you are unable to connect. Make sure that the date and time
are right in your system settings.
Q: I registered Web CEO but I cannot log on because of the 'Password
Incorrect'/ 'License Incorrect' error.
A: You might have misspelled the password (or license). To
ensure the correct spelling, we recommend that you COPY and PASTE your
license code and password. Keep in mind they are case sensitive.
However, in case you enter incorrect license or password codes, the
program will react in prompting you what you have done wrong. Retry
entering password or license code in the form, and log on.
Q: I reinstalled the program but since my e-mail address was used
for the 'Free Edition' registration, my later attempt to use it resulted
in an error.
A: You should not have been trying to register your Free Edition
for the second time under the same e-mail address. Use the 'Enter Registration
Info' option to log on and start working.
Q. What ports does Web CEO use?
A. Web CEO uses ports 80, 443, 25 and 21 (the last one is
required in case you're going to use the FTP Uploader).
Q: I cannot connect to your server. I receive error messages that
say "Network error" or "Connection timeout".
A: Ensure you are connected to the Internet. Check your connection
settings. If your computer is connected to the Internet but the problem
still persists, the recommendations will vary depending on the type
of your Internet connection (dial-up , permanent
connection , local network/proxy server).
In some cases it may help if you specify a longer timeout in 'Connection
Timeout' and more attempts to connect in 'Attempts to connect to Web
servers' (File> Settings> Common> Connections> General).

Recommendations for dial-up users
Select 'Direct connection' and try again. If this doesn't help, contact
your ISP. It may help if you mention that Web CEO uses ports 80 and
443 for direct connection and ask if your ISP uses a firewall (recommendations
on firewall issues are given below). If your
ISP provides you with the software to connect to the Internet, the
connection failures can be caused by the overly secure settings, in
this case your ISP can advise you on how to reduce the level of security.
Recommendations for proxy server users
Check your proxy settings in Web CEO. By default, the program tries
to use your connection settings as they are given in Internet Explorer
connection settings. To verify if Web CEO is configured properly, click 'Settings'
in Web CEO File menu and select 'Proxy', then check 'Connect via proxy
server' and enter the address and port of your proxy server. If you
don't know what proxy server address and port to use, find it in the
Internet Explorer LAN Settings (if you use IE 6.0, you should look
in Tools> Internet Options> Connections> LAN Settings), or
contact your network administrator.
Recommendations on firewall
issues
If you use Norton Firewall, Norton Antivirus, Norton Security Server,
or Zone Alarm, then:
- Try to disable or close the application for testing purposes. If
this doesn't solve the problem, close all tasks except the Internet
Explorer using the Task Manager and run Web CEO again. If this doesn't
help to identify the conflicting application, contact support@webceo.com.
- If it solves the problem, now all you have to do is configure your
firewall so that it allows Web CEO's connections through. Click here
for detailed instructions on most popular
firewalls settings.
Norton Internet Security
Right-click the mouse on the NIS icon in the bottom right corner
of your desktop. On the popup menu:
- Left-click the mouse on the 'Norton Internet Security' label to
activate NIS properties menu. On this menu:
- Open Status&Settings->Personal Firewall and click 'Configure'.
- Select 'Programs' and add 'webceo.exe' to the list of Manual program
control.
- Make sure that you have chosen "Permit", not "Block" :)
- Repeat the above step for wsceokrnl.dll
(Note: this is a.dll and not .exe file, so choose 'All Files' when you
browse files)
- Click 'OK' and run Web CEO again. The program must connect OK.
Zone Alarm
Right-click the mouse on the ZA icon in the bottom right corner
of your desktop. On the popup menu:
- Select 'Restore ZoneAlarm Control Centre'
- Choose 'Program Control'. Look up for Web CEO file icons
(Note: there should be two icons, one for webceo.exe and the second for
wsceokrnl.dll).
- Permit these files access to the Internet
(green checkmark must be present in 'Access' column)
- Click 'OK' and run Web CEO again. The program must connect OK.
Q: What are the minimal system requirements needed for installation and operation of WebCEO?
A: Minimal System Requirements are:
1. Computer:
Pentium class processor 100 or higher.
2. Operating system :
(a) Windows 98 or Windows Millennium
DCOM 1.2 or later must be installed for Windows 98. You can download the latest DCOM version from the Microsoft's Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp.
(b) Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 installed
MDAC 2.5SP3 or later must be installed for Windows NT 4.0. You can download the latest version of MDAC from http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm.
(c) Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
3. Memory: RAM 64 MB (128 MB RAM is recommended to perform a number of tasks simultaneously or run complex Web site/search engine scanning tasks.
4. Hard Disk space: HDD 40 MB free space for installation.
With regular Web CEO task performance, you will need about 500 Kb or more for each Web site depending on the number of its links/pages.
5. Video: 800 x 600 pixels and 16-bit color as minimum. In case you set 'Large' font size in the display properties of your computer, Web CEO may not display properly.
6. Browser: Internet Explorer: 5.0 or above.
Internet Explorer does not need to be your default browser, however, it must be installed.
In order to download the latest Internet Explorer version go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/
7. Internet connection: dial-up 28.8K as minimum to run Web CEO (recommended is an always-on Internet connection of 64K or faster).
Performance of Web CEO's tasks will depend extensively on the speed and quality of your Internet connection. The faster your Internet, the more simultaneous tasks you will be able to run, and the sooner reports will be generated without errors caused by slow connection. Otherwise, you'll have to adjust your connection settings. It principally refers to such bandwidth-consuming tasks as link checking links with Auditor, checking Rankings, Optimization analysis, Submission, and Uploading.
