How to Check Your Social Media Profile Rankings with WebCEO

SEO experts continue to look for correlation between social media signals and rankings. Most experiments prove that social media continues to become a more important factor. There are three main benefits you will get from social media:

  1. You have additional channels to communicate with your customers. When you mention, like or share what someone has written, it’s the equivalent of a “Hi, how are you” email.
  2. You will improve your rankings.
  3. You end up with more “real estate” on the SERPs.

Because legitimate interaction between a business and a customer is hard to fake online, social media authority holds an increasing amount of weight for search engines. I hope you’ll never need this guide. However forewarned is forearmed. First of all you need to understand why your rankings decreased. Your further actions will depend on the reasons you detect.

1. Check whether you have ‘Manual Actions’ penalties in your Google Webmaster Tools.

The manual action viewer in Google Webmaster Tools shows information about actions taken by the manual webspam team that directly affect that site’s ranking in Google’s web search results. There are 5 types of reported spam techniques:

  1. User-generated spam (comment spam)
  2. Thin content
  3. Unnatural links
  4. Hidden text / keyword stuffing
  5. Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects

The Manual Actions may impact the entire site (they are listed in the Site-wide matches section) or individual URLs or sections of a site (they are listed in the Partial matches section).
