{"id":3563,"date":"2016-12-26T15:53:29","date_gmt":"2016-12-26T12:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/blog\/?p=3563"},"modified":"2023-12-13T15:25:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-13T12:25:40","slug":"my-5-seo-new-year-resolutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/blog\/my-5-seo-new-year-resolutions\/","title":{"rendered":"My 5 SEO New Year Resolutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I believe in the power of New Year resolutions and I am sure that a promise to develop positive habits will work better than a promise to quit something. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year I\u2019ve decided to write down my 5 SEO resolutions to become a better SEOer in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"resolution_1_i_will_spend_less_than_10_minutes_with_site_analytics\"><\/span>Resolution #1: I will spend less than 10 minutes with site analytics.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, this doesn\u2019t refer to reporting days! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I refuse to spend more than 10 minutes a day with analytics data. That is why it is crucial to creating custom dashboards in your SEO tools. With dashboards you can get everything you need with a glance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/online-seo-tools.htm?&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_mediu=blog-post&amp;utm_campaign=blog-dec-2016-my-5-seo-new-year-resolutions\">WebCEO for my SEO tasks<\/a> (hope you do too) and one can fine-tune the Dashboard to show exactly what you need. That is what my dashboard looks like: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I prefer the Extended view with its big vivid tiles. I monitor visits from all sources, however, you can select organic if you are in charge of organic only.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Average rankings (starred keywords)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: average ranking data for the most important keywords so you will notice if they suddenly drop.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Backlinks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the amount of backlinks a website has. This tile is also here so you can notice if there is a sudden drop or growth and take appropriate actions. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Broken links<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I want my visitors to be happy. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Landing page distribution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: to remember that I have to take care of my (slightly) neglected landing pages.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"resolution_2_i_will_care_about_site_visitors_surfing_via_their_mobile_devices\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution #2: I will care about site visitors surfing via their mobile devices.<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook Instant Articles, Apple News, Google Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) &#8211; all these strongly hint that we live in the mobile era and mobile users must be pleased. AMP is speculated to have two benefits for SEO: <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is said to be a ranking factor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accelerated Mobile Pages are marked with that tiny green lightning, attracting searchers. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3566 size-medium alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/amp-229x300.png\" alt=\"amp-pages\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.wstatic.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/amp-229x300.png 229w, https:\/\/site.wstatic.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/amp.png 632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether AMP is a ranking factor or not, I am going to print and <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/blog\/amp-it-up-is-your-site-in-need-for-google-amp-pages\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pin this article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near my table.<\/span><strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"resolution_3_i_will_optimize_my_sites_for_visitors_not_search_engines\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution #3: I will optimize my sites for visitors, not search engines.<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all know that search engines want to ensure that their users get the results they need. That is why they keep on improving their algorithms and fight with spammy websites. Google announced that user experience is <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-user-experience-as-a-ranking-signal-is-currently-only-for-mobile-results-not-desktop-results-220719\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a ranking factor for mobile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and there will be no surprise that the same will be true for desktops. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s imagine what happens when a site is not user-optimized. A searcher sees a snippet on a search engine results page, she clicks on it and lands on a website. Where she cannot find prices nor a detailed description of a product, nor how it will be shipped. The visitor leaves the site in exasperation. The site brings no conversions. Google may even notice the bounce rate is high. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is vital for your business success to think like your visitor <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.webceo.com\/blog\/how-to-create-buyer-personas-for-seo\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(where buyer personas can help)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and provide the best experience ever. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"resolution_4_i_will_set_smart_goals\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution #4: I will set SMART goals.<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goal achievement makes us happy. Besides, without setting goals and objectives, our work becomes a series of chaotic tasks we cannot manage. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SMART goal setting brings structure and trackability into our everyday tasks. What is \u201cSMART\u201d? Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely goals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. You also should define how you will measure that a goal is achieved, and If there&#8217;s no way you can reach your goal, you&#8217;re setting yourself up for failure. A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it, there\u2019s no sense of urgency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me, within a year I am going to keep my SEO resolutions, which will allow me to improve my site\u2019s conversions by 5%. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"resolution_5_i_will_practice_a_little_yoga_every_day\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resolution #5: I will practice a little yoga every day.<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I know it has nothing to do with SEO but I want to take the opportunity to promise in front of you that I will practice yoga every day.
