Keyword Research Tool FAQ

WHAT IS A LONG-TAIL KEYWORD?

A long-tail keyword is a descriptive phrase that clearly demonstrates user search intent (i.e. what exactly the users want to find or do). Examples: SEO tools for agencies, how to optimize my clients’ websites. Such specific search queries usually go together with specific needs, so people who use them are more likely to become your customers when they find your site.

WHY IS KEYWORD RESEARCH IMPORTANT FOR SEO?

The end goal of keyword research is to bring users to your site – by finding keywords which closely match users’ search queries. However, not all keywords are equally good at this task. There are factors like search volume (how often people use a given search query) and user search intent (the action users want to perform after finding what they want) which directly affect the amount and quality of your website traffic.

Keyword research helps you find keywords which are most likely to cause desired user activity on your site, be it purchases, subscriptions, downloads etc.

CAN AN ONLINE KEYWORD TOOL GIVE ME KEYWORD SUGGESTIONS BETTER THAN MYSELF?

Absolutely. Other than generate keyword ideas, online keyword tools also display information you can’t get anywhere else: the number of monthly searches (both worldwide and in specified locations), cost per click and bid competition (for PPC campaigns), keywords used on competitors' sites, etc. All this data is vital for maximizing the quality of your site’s optimization, and it’s also prone to frequent updates which may require you to change the keywords you use.

For the same reasons, you should always use a keyword research tool to analyze your own keyword ideas.

DOES THIS KEYWORD TOOL SUPPORT DIFFERENT LANGUAGES?

Yes, the Keyword Research tool can find keywords in any language. You can use this tool to optimize your site whether its content is in English or not, or even if it contains content in several different languages. To make this process even easier, you can also choose your preferred language for WebCEO's interface in the top right corner.

HOW DO I USE THIS KEYWORD TOOL?

To start looking for keyword suggestions, open the Get Suggestions tab, enter a keyword idea in the text bar and press Search. Once the tool finishes searching, it will generate a table with potential keyword suggestions for you, along with metrics which display their effectiveness (such as the number of global and local searches per month). You can then proceed to add any keywords you may consider valuable to the Keyword Basket, where you keep track of what keywords you are using. You can also click any result to start a new list of keywords known to be correlated with it.

The Keywords from Search Console tab displays search queries that caused your site to appear in Google. This information can help you find keywords that are already working for you, and then you will only need to start using them on your site more actively. The Spy on Competitors tab displays keywords which your competitors are using to optimize their own sites.

HOW DO I SEE WHAT KEYWORDS COMPETITORS ARE USING?

It's easier than ever before! To use our keyword spy, just go to WebCEO's Keyword Research > Spy on Competitors tab. Then, to find competitors’ keywords, simply enter their site’s URL and press Search. This is a great source of additional keyword suggestions so your keywords list will expand and help your website perform much better.

Don't look down in desperation, look to your competitors for inspiration.

WHAT IS GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE? HOW CAN IT HELP ME WITH KEYWORD RESEARCH?

Google Search Console is a free web service for webmasters with great opportunities for SEO (search engine optimization). It can find keywords that are already bringing you organic search traffic from Google – even the ones you aren’t aware of yourself, which makes it incredibly useful for keyword research. Google Search Console also displays data on your impressions, click through rates and the average global position of your site on Google for these keywords.

HOW DO I FIND KEYWORDS FOR MY WEBSITE WHICH ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE?

WebCEO’s Keyword Research tool helps you easily choose the most potent keywords which can result in maximum relevant user traffic. A keyword’s worth is determined by these metrics:

  • Monthly keyword searches. It shows how many times users search for a specific keyword per month – the higher the number, the more potential traffic the keyword can bring. This metric isn’t constant, so you should check it at least once per month and analyze how popular keywords are through various seasons.
  • KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index). This metric measures a keyword’s ability to bring traffic based on its number of monthly searches and how competitive it is. A high KEI is better since it means the number of searches is high while the competition for the keyword is low.
  • Search trends. This metric shows the changes in a keyword’s monthly searches through the last 12 months, which can help you predict how effective (or not) the keyword may be in the future.

WHAT ARE THE MUST-HAVE FEATURES OF A GOOD SEO KEYWORD TOOL?

A good SEO keyword tool shows you the most popular and trending keywords and gives you precise data on monthly searches and search trends. WebCEO shows the most precise and up-to-date data for the keywords you are using or are interested in using. We refresh our databases nearly every day.

CAN THIS TOOL PERFORM A LOCAL KEYWORD RESEARCH?

Yes, WebCEO shows you keyword suggestions for any location supported by Google, as well as statistics for that precise location (down to the country, county or province, city and zip code). Even a quick look at your analytics data can reveal that your potential customers are searching for your product in many different places. It offers a great way to expand your business, as you now know better where your best potential customers are!

CAN I USE THIS TOOL TO FIND KEYWORDS FOR MY PPC CAMPAIGN?

Yes. The Keyword Research tool display metrics that are specifically meant to be used for PPC keyword research: Average Cost Per Click (the average price paid by advertisers for a bid), Bid Competition (how many advertisers are bidding for a keyword) and Global KEI (estimate of a keyword's effectiveness based on its competitiveness).

CAN THIS KEYWORD TOOL FIND KEYWORDS FOR VOICE SEARCH?

Yes. Simply enter your keyword ideas in the Get Suggestions tab and search the table for keyword suggestions which can be used as voice search queries. They are full sentences and questions which usually begin with the words "how to", "who", "what", "where", "when".

I HAVE PICKED AND SAVED THE BEST KEYWORD SUGGESTIONS. WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

If you have decided on the keywords you want to use, the next steps involve using them on your website and checking how you rank for them in search engines.
